We spend a lot of time in the truck driving to gigs. Because of that, we spend a lot of time listening to music, listening to podcasts, and talking.

One of our favorite podcasts is PRX’s Song Exploder, a show “where musicians take apart their songs, and piece by piece, tell the story of how they were made.” One night in late 2018, driving home from a show somewhere, we started talking about how even though we love Song Exploder, we’d really love a show that didn’t just show you how the pieces of the song fit together, but one that showed you how the sausage got made.

We forgot to mention that we also have a recording studio.

So we hatched a plan: we’d bring our friends to the studio and have them teach us one cover song and one of their originals, and we’d enlist the help of our good friend Natalie Simpson (@beehivephotovideo) to film and record the entire process, warts and all.

And so that’s what this show is. Musicians getting to know one another. Musicians learning new songs and arranging them. Musicians having a good time in the studio making art.

And now you get to see how it happened.
